My Story
Residing in Cumbernauld, Ciaren Ross is a talented piper who is currently the full time piping instructor for Glasgow City Council, teaching the young people of Glasgow through their primary and secondary school journeys. Alongside Ciaren’s teaching, he is an accomplished composer with a published music book (CROSS MUSIC VOL.1) and regularly performs with Whisky Kiss, a well known Scottish ceilidh band, within and outwith the country.

Piping from the age of 4, Ciaren was taught by his father, Pipe Major Gordon Ross, who is a well-respected & accomplished military piper. Throughout the years, Ciaren was also taught by well known solo pipers Andrew Wright & Willie MacCallum before climbing through the ranks of the prolific Boghall & Bathgate Caledonia Pipe Band juvenile system to reach the Grade 1 band in 2014. Ciaren was fortunate enough to be selected to play in the National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland where he worked himself through the ranks to be Pipe Major of the band in 2020. Through this role, Ciaren utilised his abilities to lead Scotland’s most talented pipers at numerous high profile engagements consisting of performances at Buckingham Palace, The SECC & The Royal Glasgow Concert Hall. Now at the age of 27, Ciaren now plays for the 16 time world champions Shotts & Dykehead Caledonia Pipe Band where he has competed for the past 10 seasons.

On an international scale, Ciaren has travelled all over the world to perform with the chart topping ceilidh band Whisky Kiss. Performing on the whistle and the pipes, this band has allowed Ciaren to perform at Burns Suppers’ in Shanghai, Beijing, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and many European countries. Ciaren has also played live in New York for the International Tartan Week on three occasions, making this April his fourth visit. Ciaren's talents have also been captured for the television cameras where he has performed at the BT Murrayfield Stadium for International Rugby matches and also for BBC Hogmanay Live.

Being a professionally graded solo competitor, Ciaren competes in both indoor and outdoor competitions. His numerous years of experience have seen him win prestigious prizes at the renowned Duncan Johnstone Memorial Solo competition, The Royal Highland Society of London contest and most recently the Northern Meeting B grade light music event. Through his multiple years of competing on the solo circuit, he now uses his knowledge and expertise to privately teach students of all age categories and of all abilities across the country.
